Nelson Jewell

Nelson has over 20 years of experience in the field of radiation protection. He started his professional career with the New York State Department of Health in the Wadsworth Center for Laboratories & Research in Albany NY, where he was responsible for preparation, analysis and reporting of various environmental radiological samples. He then became a Senior Radiological Health Specialist based in Rochester NY, where he was responsible for site inspections and evaluations of x-ray, nuclear medicine, radiation therapy and teletherapy installations. Nelson also provided emergency response and assistance to private, local and state agencies, and provided radiological health and safety training and assistance to county health departments, schools, and other organizations.

Nelson joined Upstate Medical Physics in 1992. His specialties include performing radiation measurements and image quality analysis for various imaging modalities, including radiology, fluoroscopy, CT, and nuclear medicine. Nelson is UMP’s expert on regulatory issues, and guides client institutions in maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local requirements pertinent to radiological health and radiation safety.
