Jason received his B.S. Degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Rochester. He spent 2 years working in the Radiation Oncology department at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester NY where he developed a passion for Medical Physics through his involvement in Brachytherapy related research. He then enrolled in a Medical Physics program at the University of Buffalo where he acquired his Master’s degree.

Jason is the first to graduate from the 3-year CAMPEP accredited residency program here at Upstate Medical Physics and has been hired as a full-time employee. In 2012, Jason participated in a Point/Counterpoint discussion in the Medical Physics journal arguing for non-academic residency programs. Since joining the company in April 2008, Jason has acquired extensive experience in conducting medical physics surveys of Radiography, Fluoroscopy, Computed Radiography (CR) equipment, Computed Tomography, Ultrasound, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Mammography and some Nuclear Medicine. After a week long CR Super-User course at Fuji medical Systems in Stamford CT his knowledge and resulting contributions are recognized by clients.

Jason obtained his FDA approval under MQSA regulations in October 2009. Since then he has been performing annual mammography surveys on all approved full-field digital mammography systems (Hologic, GE, Fuji, Siemens). In the coming year, he will work to expand his understanding of Computed Tomography. Jason has passed his American Board of Radiology - Diagnostic Radiological Physics certification exam in May 2012. He currently holds the position of Assiciate Director of Medical Physics.

Jason has spent a majority of his life in Buffalo & Rochester NY.

Keri Santiago received her Bachelor of Science from the State University of New York at Buffalo with a degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology. She then discovered and became interested in Medical Physics and continued on to earn her Master of Science in Medical Radiation Physics from the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in Chicago, Illinois.

After receiving her Bachelor’s from the University at Buffalo, Keri became a summer intern with Upstate Medical Physics. She enthusiastically returned the following summer to fulfill her clinical rotations for her Master’s program. Keri is now pleased to be working full time for the company after graduating from the Residency program.

Keri was born and raised in Penfield, New York.

Alphonso completed his B.A. in Physics at the State University of New York at Geneseo. He then went to Syracuse University for a Ph.D. in gravitational modeling. After participating for a short time in a research group involved with the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Observatory (LIGO) in Louisiana, he switched his field of study to medical imaging. He became involved in the Syracuse Medical Imaging Research Group (SMIRG) once his M.S. in Physics at Syracuse University was completed.

Alphonso's Ph.D. research involved nonrigid registration and kinetic modeling of dynamic breast PET and MR images to develop a non-invasive (without biopsy) breast cancer detection.

His desire to work with applied Medical physics brought him to Upstate Medical Physics in July 2009. In December of 2011, he graduated from the Upstate Medical Physics CAMPEP accredited residency program and became a staff medical physicist at UMP. After passing Part III of the ABR Diagnostic Radiologic Physics exam in 2012, Alphonso became a Diplomate in Diagnostic Medical Physics of the American Board of Radiology.

Joe has over 30 years of diversified experience working with sources of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and management of their safe use in medical, manufacturing, R&D, and fusion reactor environments. After receiving his degree in Biology, Joe began his professional career as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist. He then attended graduate school and received his Master’s degree in Radiological Hygiene. He spent 5 years as an operational health physicist at Princeton Plasma Physics Lab research fusion reactor in New Jersey. He then joined Eastman Kodak in Rochester and served as their Radiation and Laser Safety Officer for 14 years.

Joe joined Upstate Medical Physics in 2006. His specialties include nuclear medicine & PET support (assessments, acceptance testing), shielding design and calculations for various imaging modalities, radiation safety training, dosimetry, licensing and regulatory support, health physics, and laser and non-ionizing radiation safety.

Joe is a native of Buffalo, NY.

Nelson has over 20 years of experience in the field of radiation protection. He started his professional career with the New York State Department of Health in the Wadsworth Center for Laboratories & Research in Albany NY, where he was responsible for preparation, analysis and reporting of various environmental radiological samples. He then became a Senior Radiological Health Specialist based in Rochester NY, where he was responsible for site inspections and evaluations of x-ray, nuclear medicine, radiation therapy and teletherapy installations. Nelson also provided emergency response and assistance to private, local and state agencies, and provided radiological health and safety training and assistance to county health departments, schools, and other organizations.

Nelson joined Upstate Medical Physics in 1992. His specialties include performing radiation measurements and image quality analysis for various imaging modalities, including radiology, fluoroscopy, CT, and nuclear medicine. Nelson is UMP’s expert on regulatory issues, and guides client institutions in maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local requirements pertinent to radiological health and radiation safety.

After receiving his B. S. Degree in Physics, Mark started his professional career working as an electrical engineer at an electric power construction company. He also spent a number of years working in computer engineering. Mark then attended graduate school and received his PhD degree in Medical Physics. His research during graduate studies focused on development of new x-ray high-resolution digital imaging systems for neuron-interventional procedures, and image quality evaluation.

Mark Joined Upstate Medical Physics in 2005. His specialties include evaluation of Mammography, CT, MRI, Radiography, Fluoroscopy, and calculations for radiation safety and patient dosimetry.

Mark’s goal is to help clients achieve the best performance from their imaging equipment.

Bob has been working in the radiology field for over 32 years. He has work in a variety of healthcare facilities, from 20 to 700 bed acute care hospitals and a large HMO. His work experiences include staff technologist, Educational Coordinator, Chief Technologist, Radiology Manager, Administrative Director of Medical Imaging, Director of Ancillary and Support Services and Applications Consultant for Kodak. Along with extensive experience in hospital and department operations, development of long and short term planning, including implementation of new modalities. Department design and renovations, Capital Improvement projects are areas which Bob has enjoyed most during his career.

Bob’s knowledge and experience as Application Consultant with DR, CR and PACS equipment has provided additional assistance for clients. Has experience with JCAHO, NYSDOH, FDA and OSHA inspections.

Ron Rohe

Ron is a native of Syracuse, NY. After receiving his B.S. and B.A. degrees in Physics and Applied Mathematics at the University of Rochester, Ron attended graduate school at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and received his PhD in Physics. His experimental research during graduate studies focused on the fusion of heavy nuclei at low energies. For several years following graduation, Ron worked as a researcher and as a college professor in the countries of Italy and Indonesia, respectively.
During the 1990s Ron was employed as an Assistant Professor of Medical Physics at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. His duties there were threefold, being divided equally among teaching the Physics of Nuclear Medicine, performing clinical duties at a few local hospitals (including daily QC checks and weekly therapy dose estimates), and carrying out research in the areas of dosimetry for new radiopharmaceuticals and new methods of imaging radiopharmaceuticals. He has numerous publications in these two research areas as well as holding a patent related to his imaging research. In 1999 he became certified by the American Board of Radiology in Medical Nuclear Physics. Over the past decade Ron worked both as a college professor and as an Electrical Engineer.
Ron joined Upstate Medical Physics in 2010 and specializes in the area of Medical Nuclear Physics. His goal is to help clients streamline their QC activities and associated record keeping as well as to help clients achieve the best performance from their imaging equipment.

Vikas completed his Bachelor’s and Doctoral degrees in Physics at the State University of New York at Buffalo. His doctoral thesis focused on developing high-resolution 3D rotational micro-angiographic systems, which can be easily implemented on clinical C-arm systems. Vikas joined Global Physics Solutions in Columbus, OH as a Diagnostic Medical Physicist in June, 2009, where he gained extensive clinical experience in performing Physics surveys on CT, Radiographic, Fluoroscopic, Mammographic imaging systems, etc. He also served as a certified radiation expert at various hospitals located in Ohio. Vikas obtained his FDA approval under MQSA regulations in October of 2009, and has been performing annual mammography physics surveys and equipment evaluations ever since. He has helped various imaging centers and hospitals successfully accredited by the ACR for mammographic and CT imaging systems.

Vikas joined Upstate Medical Physics in January, 2011. He became certified in Diagnostic Medical Physics by the American Board of Radiology in May, 2012. He has been actively involved in Clinical Dose Optimization Team at various hospitals assisting them in managing radiation dose and image quality effectively. In addition to routine clinical Medical Physics work, Vikas also worked on various research and development projects with major medical imaging equipment/software manufacturers such as Fuji Medical Systems, Carestream Health, Volpara Solutions, Xoran Technologies etc. He has also assisted in development of QC manuals for AccuBoost image guided breast irradiation system and Giotto mammography system. Vikas serves as a committee member and a mentor in UMP’s CAMPEP approved Diagnostic Medical Physics Residency Program.

Mary Jo has over 17 years experience as an x-ray technologist, working in large teaching hospitals as well as private radiology offices, in both New York and Connecticut. Most recently, she spent 10 years as the Mammography Team Leader for a large multi-site private practice in Rochester. Mary Jo has extensive experience with digital mammography, mammography QC procedures, MQSA inspections, and the ACR Mammography Accreditation Program.

In February 2010, Mary Jo joined Upstate Medical Physics as the Education and QC Coordinator. She plays a key administrative role in our CAMPEP accredited Diagnostic Imaging Physics Residency Program; she also coordinates educational activities for the staff, schedules visits to client sites, and oversees the quality assurance efforts for our reports. Often it is Mary Jo’s voice you hear when calling UMP, and you will find that she is happy to track down answers to all your QC questions.

Mary Jo was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and raised in Rochester, New York, where she currently lives with her husband and three children.

Suphatra received a PhD in Physics with a concentration in Biophysics from Syracuse University in 2011. Her dissertation focused on developing an optoelectronic detector and its operation system to study single-cell motility. She is an expert in hardware and software interface and signal processing.

After receiving her degree from Syracuse University, she voluntarily assisted in several projects at Upstate Medical Physics (UMP); including estimating patient specific Mean Glandular Dose (MGD) during diagnostic mammography and Computed Tomography Dose Profile width analysis. In addition, she shadowed members of Upstate Medical Physics on several field assignments and further developed her love for diagnostic medical physics. Suphatra then took additional medical physics courses from the CAMPEP-accredited program, University at Buffalo to fulfill ABR requirements to take the Medical Physics Part I Examination.

Suphatra joined Upstate Medical Physics as a Diagnostic Medical Physics Resident in December 2013. She is proud to be a member of such a diverse team of talented and professional individuals at UMP.

She is originally from Thailand and now lives in North Syracuse, New York. When not devoting her time at UMP; Suphatra enjoys spending time with her family, hiking the great outdoors, camping, sewing and dancing.

Jen has over 17 years of experience as an x-ray technologist focused on orthopaedics, bone density and mammography in both large medical centers and private offices. In the last several years, she became more involved with the x-ray quality control testing where she was working and eventually took over the responsibilities entirely. Jen joined UMP in January of 2016.

Dylan DeAngelis received his undergraduate degree in Physics from Gettysburg College, and his graduate degree from the CAMPEP-accredited medical physics program at Columbia University. He joined the two year residency program at Upstate Medical Physics in the summer of 2015, in pursuit of certification from the American Board of Radiology. He has completed Part I of the ABR exam for diagnostic medical physics.

During his graduate studies, Dylan wrote a program to automate data collection and analysis for the testing of MRI coil elements. His desire to improve his own method and contribute to the medical physics community makes him a perfect match for Upstate Medical Physics, a company that values quality, service, and safety.

Loren Marous received her undergraduate physics degree and graduate medical physics degree from Cleveland State University. During her graduate studies, Loren worked as a teaching assistant where she taught undergraduate physics labs in addition to working as a research assistant performing Monte Carlo simulations involving radiation transport in CT. Loren is also a registered radiologic technologist with the ARRT and licensed in the state of Ohio to perform radiography.  Loren has passed the ABR Part I examination and will be taking Part II in August 2018

Loren graduated from the Upstate Medical Physics residency program in June 2018 and is now employed with the company as a Junior Medical Physicist. She is originally from Cleveland, OH and currently lives in Sayre, PA.
